Metis Scholarships

SaskTel Métis Scholarship

The purpose of the SaskTel Métis Scholarship is to recognize leadership, academic achievement, financial need and community involvement of Métis students pursuing post secondary accreditation in one of the following:
- Engineering (electrical, electronic or telecommunications)
- Business Administration/Commerce
- Computer Science
- Other field of study related to SaskTel

The award will initially exist as a three year pilot to be reviewed at the end of those three years. Eight awards of $2000 (or other disbursement as agreed to by the Selection Committee) will be available annually commencing in May, 2009.

Napoleon LaFontaine Economic Development Scholarship Program

The Napoleon LaFontaine Economic Development Scholarship Program was established to encourage Saskatchewan’s Métis is to pursue full-time education and training in academic studies that lead toward their social, cultural and economic development.

Napoleon LaFontaine was instrumental in organizing the Association of Métis and Non-Status Indians of Saskatchewan. Over the years, he devoted himself to developing social and educational policy for Aboriginal People. These scholarships are so named in recognition of his many contributions.

Currently Napoleon LaFontaine Scholarships are awarded as Entrance Scholarships, Undergraduate Scholarships, Graduate Scholarships, Graduation Scholarships, Loan Remission Scholarships, and Special Scholarships.

SaskEnergy Incorporated Scholarship Program

SaskEnergy has made a commitment to the Gabriel Dumont Institute (GDI) and
Dumont Technical Institute (DTI) to fund scholarships for a total of Five
Thousand Dollars ($5,000) annually, per Institute.

These scholarships are intended to reward academic achievement, encourage pursuit of education leading to employment, and provide monetary assistance.

GDI Cameco Scholarship

Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research (GDI) and Cameco have partnered to jointly provide scholarships to encourage Métis students to pursue post-secondary education in the following fields:

  • Trades
  • Business Administration/Commerce
  • Computer Science
  • Other fields of study related to Cameco

Adult Basic Education Scholarship Program

The Adult Basic Education Scholarship Program is a three-year pilot commencing May 2010.

The purpose of the Adult Basic Education Scholarship program is to recognize leadership, academic achievement, financial need and community involvement of Métis students pursuing ABE Level 3 or Level 4 accreditation.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a Level 3 (ABE 10) or Level 4 (Adult 12) Basic Education Program and anticipate completion of the program prior to the next Adult Basic Education Scholarship application deadline. For example, a student who starts a ABE program in September and anticipates completion in June would apply for the May 1st deadline.

GDI – Saskatoon Health Region Scholarship

Hard to recruit Areas (SHR website)Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research (GDI) and the Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) have partnered to jointly provide scholarships to Métis students in pursuit of post-secondary education leading to health careers in the following fields:

  • Management
  • Therapies
  • Science and Technology
  • Nursing, Social and Community
  • Applicants interested working in SHR rural communities

The awards will initially exist as a four-year pilot project to be reviewed at the end of those four years. A target of $1,000 awards or other disbursement as agreed to by the Trustee Committee will commence in October 2011.
